Hello Everyone,
I want to let the members know that my main goal the past couple of years is finding a more affordable engine platform that can produce more power and have the dependability we need. This will be better to hopefully keep older kids in the sport longer. I have looked at different possible engine platforms, but found the Briggs World Formula to be the best fit for QMA. We will be calling the new class HVY World Formula (W/F). Briggs and Stratton was founded in 1909 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. In 1991 Briggs and Stratton started the motor sports division. They produce engines that compete in many racing organizations. The world formula engine is currently being raced in over 22 countries, including the USA and Canada. I have been in contact with a couple of organizations in the USA and Canada that race the W/F engine, and have received a lot of positive feedback. David Klaus, from Briggs motor sport division, has been instrumental in getting this engine introduced to QMA. My thanks to Dave for all his help. I also want to thank Gary Hanson for his hard work, R&D information, and testing. As I am writing this we have some tracks across the country racing this exhibition class and are having great success. We will be testing all year. I, along with other tech personnel and QMA members, will document as much information as we can so we can bring the W/F platform back to the national meeting next year to make it a permanent class. The world formula engine was strictly built for racing. It has been raced in 24 hour enduro races. We have a preliminary rule book for tech. that we will be updating throughout the year. The tech. rules will not be as complicated as Honda tech, but will have enough rules to keep the cost down and keep racing on a level playing field. I will have this tech manual on the QMA website in April. There are 500 Briggs Motor Sport centers thru out the USA and Canada. We have some QMA, Honda, and Deco builders starting to get on board to sell the world formula engines. I will post a list on the QMA website with the names and phone numbers of participating engine builders to buy engines. Preliminary rules are stated on page 6. Tech will also be working on a light class for the W/F for next year. For updates and information on the world formula engine, log onto the QMA website throughout the year. I would like all regions, or local tracks that are planning to race this class this year, to contact me so they can help in gathering information. Once again I would like to thank everybody that has helped me in making this exhibition class a reality.
